Trusting the Process Pays Off
Beth Donnelly was a determined middle school runner who consistently ran a 5:55 mile during her 7th and 8th grade years. She was committed and talented, but her progress had begun to plateau.
That changed when Beth joined Coach Avery’s training group.
In her freshman year of high school, Beth dropped her mile time to 5:20 and qualified for the AAA State Meet in the 3200 meters. That breakthrough fueled her confidence — and her growth accelerated quickly.
Over the next several years, Beth became one of the most dominant distance runners in Tennessee, winning state championships, qualifying for national championship meets, and helping lead her team to the top of the national stage.
Highlights include:
Undefeated at the State Indoor Championships across all classifications, winning seven consecutive distance titles
Qualified for six national championship meets
Earned three All-American medals, including a national title
Led her 4x800 relay team to a Millrose Games championship
Led her teammates to a 1–2–3 sweep in the 800 meters (all in 2:13) and a 1–2 sweep in the 1600 meters (both under 5:00) at the 2020 State Indoor Championships, while also winning the State DMR title
Personal records:
800m – 2:13
1600m – 4:47
3200m – 10:20
Beth’s story is a powerful reminder that steady, disciplined training — paired with patience and belief in the process — can unlock potential that once seemed just out of reach.
